Khine Nwe Oo, Tanintharyi Region — An estimated 100,000 people have been added to the updated voter list in Tanintharyi Region since the list was first released by the Tanintharyi Region Election Commission last month.
Ko Htain Linn Oo, a senior official from the Tanintharyi Region Election Commission, told BNI that they were only 850,000 eligible voters on the first voter list, but now there are nearly 950,000 eligible voters on the updated list.
“Based on the difficulties and experiences endured during the first release, we have released the list after going over it carefully,” U Htain Linn Oo said.
Although the National League for Democracy (NLD) has checked the voter list after the Tanintharyi Region Election Commission released it for the first time. The party will have a chance to check the second for errors including the inclusion of dead people and the exclusion of some names.
Lower House candidate U Aung Sein from the NLD, who is running in the Dawei constituency, said the list continues to have errors. “The election may be over, but the voter list will never be correct. We don’t have time to check it now,” he said.
Tanintharyi Region has ten townships where voting will take place. There are over 982,965 eligible voters in 340 wards and villages and 1,170 polling stations that will operate in Tanintharyi.
