Khine Nwe Oo — Newly elected members of Parliament from the National League for Democracy (NLD) will continue to work with philanthropic organizations to clean up the trash in Tanintharyi Region in the future, MPs say.

Newly elected Lower House MP U Aung Sein said the NLD took part in th cleanup effort from 6 am to 10 am on December 12 and 13 in line with the instruction from the central headquarters and will cooperate with philanthropic organizations and youth organizations.

“We will cooperate with officials from the City Development Committee. They told us that they will help us as much as they can. I don’t want our work to interfere with their work,” U Aung Sein said.

According to him, the garbage will be dumped at the designated areas after completing the cleanup task and the City Development Committee will provide garbage trucks to aid the cleanup.

Tanintharyi Regional Parliament MP U Khin Maung Aye said the NLD plans to carry out the cleanup tasks on important days like Independence Day and Union Day in order for the public to have discipline and to help these places become trash free.

“Only when we continue to do this consecutively, the public will have awareness about discipline. We plan to change the places when we continue this program. We have filmed an educational program. It will be broadcasted soon. We will educate students to have discipline at schools. These are our next tasks,” said U Khin Maung Aye.

All 43 elected MPs from the NLD in the region will participate in the trash clean up. It will focus on hospitals, markets, roads, bus stops, rest areas, and gutters. A force of 150 people will assist each MP in the area where he or she is leading the clean up.
