Khine Nwe Oo — According to speculation by local candidates, among the two Ye constituencies in Mon State, the National League for Democracy is expected to win in the south and one of the Mon parties to take the northern riding.
“Results have yet to be released. The roads and communication to villages are bad, we are still counting ballots in northern Ye area. I think one of their ethnic (Mon) parties will win in this area,” said U Myo Win, a NLD Upper House candidate running in Constituency No 8.
U Myo Win explained the public faced difficulties getting voter registration cards. Some couldn’t and thus lost their right to vote.
Candidates are still waiting ballot results. In the more remote villages, it’s not expected until this evening.
U Aung Soe Naing, a State Parliament candidate for Union Solidarity and Development Party running in Constituency No 1 said: “The results are (only based) on proclamations made by the public…We are still waiting for detailed results. We have to be content with these results.”
Only two Mon parties are running in the two Ye constituencies; the Mon National Party and the All Mon Region Democracy Party.
Ye has 44 village tracts and is divided into No 7 and No 8 constituency.
