It is reported that a region between Tangyan and Monghsu or trans border between northern Shan State and southern Shan State, the two rival armed movements are readying to wage a fresh war as deploying their troops have intensified, according to the local news sources.

“The region between Tangyan and Monghsu is now at a brink of war as the two rival armies are competing one another in deploying their reinforcements and readying for a fresh and deadly war. It is estimated that the deployments from both sides are now reached about 5,000 troops, with fully armed personnel. We have no choice but to defend ourselves and position by engaging in the war,” said an SSPP/SSA HQ’s official.

burma-soldiersOn April 28, a convoy of over 100 Burmese military trucks were moving forward from Taunggyi to Monghsu with 15 soldiers in each truck. The truck convoys also seem to be loaded with full ammunitions and food stuffs, said a politician from Namzang.

“In fact, SSA soldiers and units of Burma Army have been engaged in clashes on daily basis. It is likely the fight will be intensified. A 2000-strong units of Burma Army are said to be positioned between two rivers—Nampang and Salween. If the Burma Army movements continue, obviously the war may break out any time soon,” said an SSA field commander from frontline.

From the mid-March, due to the fights between SSA and Burma army, over 1,000 people have fled their homes.

In response to the Burma army troop deployments and movement have been intensified, Shan State Army has retaliated by counter deploying its troops in the frontline, the local people out there, on the event of war, are overwhelmed with fears for human right abuses and fleeing their homes once again, said Sai Ai, an aid worker for refugees from Tangyan.
