Tatmadaw Attacks Villages Displacing Thousands In Falam Township

Burma Army (BA) offensives in northern Chin State has displaced over 2,000 people from 7 villages along the road from Falam to Hakha townships.

The soldiers have burnt down many peoples' homes while attacking their villages with artillery fire.

In some cases, soldiers are staying in their homes after they fled into the jungle.

A man from Falam town who's helping the civilians told Khonumthung News that all the residents of Thlanrawn, Taal and Rialti have fled and that the military has burnt down all the houses in Rialti.

The other villages are Lungpi, Zalai, Tlangzar and 'new' Thlanrawn.

"They took very little food with them when they fled and it will run out if they have to stay in the jungle for long," he told Khonumthung News.

Meanwhile, the other villages along the road are also preparing to flee.

After Burma's ruling State Administration Council appointed Lt-Gen Than Hlaing as the new commander for its Northwestern Regional Command, scores of troops, tanks and other vehicles have been dispatched to fight the Chin resistance in northern and southern Chin State.

Many BA soldiers and vehicles arrived in Falam town on 12 October and continued south towards Hakha. The next day, the military burnt down the town of Rialti and fought with the Chin National Army (CNA) and Chinland Defence Force, who ambushed the convoy as it passed through.

On 14 October, BA soldiers burned down a Christian church and at least 10 houses in the new Thlanrawn.

According to the Chin National Front, the political wing of the CNA, the Chin resistance fighters have continued ambushing the southbound convoy in Falam Township, killing many soldiers and destroying at least 16 vehicles.
