The Chin Brotherhood Alliance (CBA) offensives to capture the Chin State towns of Mindat and Falam are still ongoing and have entered their second month since being launched on 6 November 2024.
Salai William Chin, General Secretary of the Chin National Organisation/Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF) said: “By the grace of the Lord, we have achieved some successes, but clashes remain fierce to this day. The terrorist junta, facing setbacks on all fronts, is bolstering its ground troops with airstrikes and missile attacks. We need the support and prayers of the people for the success of our operation, as well as additional weapons and ammunition.”
Despite the Chin coalition forces taking control of some junta positions in Mindat Town, fighting has been intensifying in the town. The junta has also been launching more airstrikes, according to Ko Yaw Man, a spokesperson for the Mindat Township People's Administration.
In Falam Town the Chin forces have gained control of some areas, but some junta positions in the town are still holding out.
The CNO Vice Chairman, Salai Peter Than, offered the junta troops still holding out in Falam Town safe passage out of the town if they surrender.
On his social media account he wrote: “Before we reach a point where forgiveness is no longer possible, give us back our town. We will allow you to go wherever you wish. If anyone is willing to leave Falam Town, please contact my [social media] account. We don't want your lives, only our town.”
The junta has used frequent airstrikes and artillery attacks in its attempts to keep hold of Falam and Mindat towns. The junta troops defending the towns have also been frequently resupplied with weapons, ammunition and food.
Since the fighting began on 6 November, junta soldiers have set fire to about 200 houses in downtown Mindat, according to Mindat Town residents.
The Chin resistance forces are being assisted in their attempts to take Falam and Mindat towns by Bamar resistance forces from other parts of the country. They have been joined by fighters from the Burma National Revolutionary Army (BNRA) and the Generation Z Army (GZA), two Bamar resistance groups based in neighbouring Sagaing Region. Fighters from resistance forces based in Yaw Township, Magway Region have also joined the offensives.
The CBA is appealing for support from people both inside and outside Myanmar as it and its allies have suffered casualties during the current offensives and are in need of weapons and ammunition.
