SNDP chair will not attend CSSU annual meeting to takeover chairman position

The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP)’s chairman will not attend the Committee for Shan State Unity (CSSU)’s annual meeting even though he will be appointed as the chairman at the meeting.

“At first, I’ve made arrangements to attend the meeting in Loi Tai Leng. Then, I had to undergo a heart surgery in Singapore. My heart was not beating regularly. I also have high blood pressure and I went under an eye surgery. The doctor told me not to go on long journeys so I won’t be able to go to Loi Tai Leng. I have assigned the secretarial group to accept the chairman position on my behalf,” said Sai Aik Pao, chairman of the SNDP, which is also known as the White Tiger Party.

The CSSU’s annual meeting will be held at the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army – South (RCSS/SSA-S)’s headquarters in Loi Tai Leng on February 1-2. The annual meeting will review the tasks carried out in the previous year, set down plans for the next year and hand over chairman position from the RCSS/SSA to the SNDP for 2018-2019 year.

However, the SNDP chairman Sai Aik Pao will not be able to attend it so he will send a five-member delegation – general secretary Sai Bo Aung, joint secretary Sai Aung Myint Khine, joint secretary Sai Kham Kyaw, Nan Wah Nu, and Yain Yain Oo – on his behalf, Sai Aik Po added.

The CSSU’s chairman position is rotated every year and the SNDP was assigned the position in 2016. However, it was not able to take up the position so the Shan State Joint Action Committee (SSJAC)’s chairman Khun Htun Oo was appointed as chairman.

The CSSU was established by political parties, ethnic armed organizations, and civil society organizations in 2013. The Shan coalition currently has ten member organizations.
