The imminent transfer of ‘The Lady’ from prison to house arrest expected on August 1st

According to political analysts, the Military Council is facing difficulties and has become increasingly agitated to the point of utilizing the name of the imprisoned State Counselor, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

There are unofficial reports indicating that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the civilian leader sentenced to 33 years in prison for 19 cases after the military coup, will almost certainly be moved from Naypyidaw Prison to house arrest.

Dr. Hla Kyaw Zaw, an analyst of Myanmar affairs, said, "In the present situation, they appear to be facing problems on many fronts. It seems they are getting rather desperate to figure out how to overcome these challenges. So they are turning to seeking assistance from Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. There maybe internal

differences among them regarding their decision to involve Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in their political strategy.”

On August 1, the junta leader's consecration ceremony for the "Maravijaya" Buddha image will take place, as reported by AP on July 25. On the same day, prisoners are expected to receive amnesty, and an announcement regarding Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's house arrest will be made.

Alongside the ground battles, the Military Council, which has been facing setbacks in political, military, and diplomatic affairs, they have long been considering utilizing the potential influence of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi .

"For those observing from the sidelines, it's evident that the Military Council is presently displaying delusional and agitated behavior without any clear policy. The rest will need to be observed for a while," Dr. Hla Kyaw Zaw further remarked.

According to the BBC's report, the Military Council relocated Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to a house in Nay Pyi Taw, where the deputy minister resides. However, the Military Council has stated that they cannot confirm this information at the moment.

Despite Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's imprisonment for over 30 years to remove her from the political stage, the Military Council's use of her name signifies a desperate situation for them, according to political analysts.

Veteran politician U Pe Than stated, "If the Military Council decides to utilize Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, they will have numerous options. They can employ her for peace efforts, calm and control her supporters, or they encourage the public to accept the Military Council. In such a scenario,Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will be utilized as per their needs and manipulated accordingly. This is undoubtedly the course of action the Military Council will pursue."

However, U Pe Than pointed out that the Military Council will not grant Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the freedom to engage in political activities among the public instead, they will only utilize her to a limited extent for their own benefit.

On July 9, the Thai Foreign Minister had the opportunity to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and stated that “She encouraged dialogue”. However, the Military Council confirmed that they did not know about the specifics of the discussions between the two.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since February 1, 2021, after the military coup, has been the subject of numerous attempts by international organizations and diplomats, including ASEAN, to see her. However, the Military Council consistently denied access to her until July 9 of this year.

However, towards the end of the extended state of emergency, despite the ongoing need to focus on stabilizing the country and the situation of military imbalance, the Military Council allowed Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to meet with the Thai Foreign Minister.
