Man Yu Kyaw — A 90-year-old woman was shocked to death when two artillery shells exploded at Min Tha Taung village under Kyauktaw township last night, said the villagers.
The victim woman has been identified as Daw Ngaung Htwe Phyu.
Maung Mya Hein, a village elder said, “She was maintaining good health. When the heavy artillery shells were fired at midnight, villagers got scared and came down from upstairs. She was also asked to come down by her family members but she could not follow them.She seemingly died of severe shock after the artillery fires.”
At least two artillery shells exploded at the village exit road on October 4 midnight lasting for a few minutes. The artillery shells came from Kyauktaw area where many battalions are being stationed, said another villager named Maung Thein Hlaing adding that there was however no report of fighting incidents near Min Tha Taung village last night.
When contacted by Narinjara News, Pyithu Hluttaw member U Tun Win from Kyauktaw township constituency informed that he heard the incident.
“I come to know that one elder person died after the artillery explosions,” he said.
The blast damaged the roof and some parts of walls of Daw Ame Chay's house and it has also killed many fishes in a pond at the back of the village, informed the villagers.
The victim’s body was buried at around 2 pm on Sunday.
