Strong winds and hail hit Lashio Township in Northern Shan State at about 2pm on 28 April causing injuries and damage according to residents.
Sai Kham who was travelling through the area said that strong winds in some town wards and in western areas of Lashio Township had blown down mature trees, electricity poles, bamboo trees and crops. Some roads were also ruined by water pouring down off the mountainside.
He said: “There were strong winds and heavy rain in Lashio Town, but no hail fell. In the Lwe-Lwant area, which is near the enterance to Lashio Town if you are coming from the direction of Hsipaw Township, there were downed trees and electricity poles and flood water in the road.”
Nan Nout a Lashio resident said that on Sunday 19 April there had been strong winds in Lashio and Hsipaw townships that blew off some house roofs and caused millions of kyats worth of damage to stored goods.
On 19 April strong winds at Hway Lin Lam Village in Mine Phone Village-Tract, Tachileik Township, Eastern Shan State blew a 100 year old tree onto a house killing one person, injuring six others and damaging a house and a car. Twenty other houses also had their roofs blown off, according to villagers from Hway Lin Lam.
