The Shan State government is planning to provide vocational training to displaced youths whose education have been interrupted after fleeing from the fighting in the northern Shan State, according to the state government’s spokesperson U Soe Nyunt Lwin.

The Shan State government said a total of 7,970 people – 3,859 men and 4,111 women - from over 1,500 households have been displaced in Kyaukme, Muse, and Laukkai districts.

U Soe Nyunt Lwin, who is also the Shan State Minister of Planning and Economy, said the Shan State government is trying to provide vocational education within this year to the children who do not have opportunities to continue their education.

“There are weaving training schools in Kyaukme and Taunggyi. The weaving training school is very suitable for girls. [The school offers] one-year course and six-month course. After completing the training, weaving mills come to employ them so they can enter the workplace immediately after completing the training,” said Minister U Soe Nyunt Lwin.

He continued that five types of training such as training for small-scale industry, small-scale commodity, and food manufacturing and training for repairing single cylinder engines, motorcycles, and mobile phones for men will be opened at least five times per year.

The trainees can immediately get job opportunities after they complete the training.

Respective general administrative departments and weaving training schools have been informed about the plan and Lashio deputy state head has been gathering the displaced youths that want to attend the training.

Each batch will have around 30 people and free food and accommodation will be provided to them at the training schools.
