Sezin villagers still unwilling to return although Village Rehabilitation Committee was formed

A Rehabilitation Committee for war-torn Sezin Village in Hpakant Township was formed, but most of the residents who fled the war were not willing to return to the village yet.

Some locals expressed their desire to return to the village but not only due to the restrictions imposed by the Military Council troops stationed in the village but also The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) had not given any specific instructions yet, most of them did not dare to do so.

Currently under the terms of the Military Council, about only about five people were allowed to enter the village each day and had to pay charges to the Military Council troops if they were carrying goods, a woman who fled the village told Myitkyina News Journal.

"Only worthless items remained in the village. The houses are only left as shells”, she said.

A Sezin villager said that due to the conflicts that occurred in Sezin village, not only Sezin residents but also locals from nearby Shwe Twin, Shwe Pyi Myint and Lansone villages were forced to flee. Most of them are still reluctant to return to the village, he added.

“We are not brave enough to return to the village even if we are willing to”, he admitted.

All the entrances and exits of Sezin village were strictly controlled by the Military Council and only entry and exit were allowed from a hiking road connected to Nampoke Village. It had only been 15 days since the residents were allowed to go in and out again.

An intense battle broke out in Sezin between the Military Council, SNA joint forces and KIA on July 16. The Military Council burned down 400 houses and killed nearly 50 people. About 2000 residents were forced to flee the war.
