Local residents have been feeling very concerned over their security after bombs exploded two days in a row in Muse border town in the northern Shan State.
A bomb exploded at Muse Industrial Zone on April 18 and another bomb exploded at a landfill near Innwa Bank on the Union Highway on April 19, according to Muse residents.
“The sound of the bomb blast from last night was very loud. Even our house shook. No one has been injured,” said Nan Mwe from Muse, who lives near the site of the mine blast.
Local residents are afraid to go out at night due to frequent bomb blasts and they are very concerned over their security, Nan Mwe added.
“Bombs frequently explode here. [The authorities] never find out which group was responsible for the bomb blasts. We are afraid to leave our homes at night,” said Sai Htwe, a Muse resident.
He added that ethnic armed groups are active in Muse and it is located at the China border so it is difficult to guess the culprit behind the bomb blasts.
Local youths from Muse said Muse is an area of high security concerns due to frequent robberies and activities of robbers and bandits so the local residents have to take care of their own safety.
“It was only a ‘sound mine’. No one has been harmed. It was only a threat. There’s no concern. Muse’s security has been raised,” an official from Muse District Police Force told the Shan Herald.
Three bombs exploded near Myawaddy Bank in Muse last April. No culprit has been found for these bomb blasts and the authorities have not released any official announcements.
