As the Military Council's column invaded the eastern side of Tabayin Township, Sagaing Division and more than 10,000 local residents who are fleeing need emergency assistance.
Starting from January 22, the Military Council column of around 150 soldiers invaded from Segyi and Zeintzun villages of Ye-U township to Nyaunghla and Weagyi villages of Tabayin township. And the people of 5 villages were forced to flee because Military Council troops were stationed in those villages and burning their houses, according to an official from Tabayin Township Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Support Organization.
"They (Junta soldiers) left on January 22 and arrived on January 23. Since they first arrived, they burned the villages of Letyetkone, Nyaunghla, Mukatwin. This morning they burned the Mayakan village and now they are burning the Ohntapin village. A total of 5 villages have been burned," he said.
He added that residents of villages such as Letyetkone, Mukatwin, Nyaunggyikone, Meoe, Thayettaw, Nyaunghla, Weagyi, Konegyi, Thapyaythar, Thitton, Mayakan, Tanei, Sinyaukkone, Pauktaw, Nabehla in the eastern part of Tabayin Township are still fleeing to
safety and need urgent help.
"About 15 villages are fleeing. Within 4 days, there have been more than 1,000 displaced people. We are helping about 7000 people. There are many difficulties. Shelter, food, and medicine are the main things we need," said an official from Tabayin Township Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Support Organization.
He added that most of the displaced people had to take refuge in monasteries, forests and huts in villages far away from the Military Council column.
The column burned nearly 3,500 houses in 37 villages of Tabayin township and two wards of Saingpyin city in two months between last December 2022 and January 2023. It is a joint column of Mawlaik based Light Infantry Battalion 364 and Infantry Battalion 701.
After the coup, more than 35,000 homes were burned down by the Military Council and its subordinate groups in the entire Sagaing Division, which is the most burned in the entire country of Myanmar. And more than 4,500 homes were lost in Tabayin Township alone according to the records of those helping to displaced people.
