Some state schools teaching Mon literature have not yet received the proper textbooks, delaying the coursework, according to a state official.
“Many schools in Ye township haven't received [the books] yet,” said U Min Soe Lin, secretary of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the Mon State Hluttaw.
“We don’t know how many schools in other townships also haven’t received the textbooks yet.”
He added that the ethnic affairs committee will start a field inspection on July 28, beginning in Chaungzone township.
According to U Myo Tint Aung, the education officer for Mon State, the Mon State Education Office sent Mon, Karen and Pa-O textbooks for the 2017-2018 academic year to respective township education offices on July 13.
“If the schools still haven’t received the textbooks, they need to contact their respective township offices to get them,” he said.
On July 20, Mon State Education Officer and Social Affairs Minister U Htain Lin repeated the instructions for township education officers to come and pickup books concerning ethnic literature.
But some blamed poor communication within the education office for the delay.
