Military Council spreads false information claiming “No civilian casualties in the Hpakant bombing”

In the world of propaganda and disinformation, there can be little lies and big lies. The Military Council’s version of their bomb attack on a peaceful concert on Sunday October 23rd near Hkapant township that “there were no civilian casualties” from more than 100 people now known to be dead ranks as one of the biggest lies of 2022.

The names of many civilians who died from the Junta’s air-force bombing are known including Kachin artists, singers, some local businessmen.

On October 25 the media controlled by the Military Council pumped out false news that claimed the Air Force’s bombing attack in A Nang Pa area of Hpakant Township was conducted in accordance with the “Rules of Engagement and there were no civilian casualties.”

In fact, all those statements and reports are lies.Many witnesses already confirmed that civilians and Kachin musicians were killed by the Military Council’s bombing strike in A Nang Pa on the night of October 23.The Military Council's fighter jets bombed a music concert held in A Nang pa on October 23 ahead of the KIO Commemoration Day which falls on October 25th.

The Military-owned Myawaddy news agency, Myanmar Alin and Kyemon newspapers started to publish this nonsense. Actually, the statements and reports of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, Myawaddy news agency, Myanmar Alin and Kyemon newspapers were deployed to  cover up the bloodbath that really happened with the full approval of the Junta

Famous Kachin singer Aurali and keyboard player Ko King were killed in the Air Force’s bombing attack, and other Kachin musicians were also injured. KIA troops and civilians also suffered casualties.

When reliable media outlets contacted locals and KIO's spokespersons about the A Nang Pa bombing, they confirmed that singers, civilians and KIO/KIA troops were killed in the attack.

Nowadays it can be seen that disinformation related to NUG, CRPH and ethnic armed organizations, and lies related to the dialogues between the Junta leaders and ethnic leads, are all part of spreading false news and hate speech. trigger inter-ethnic conflict. When disseminating such false news, old photos are occasionally used to mislead the readers.

In the current period of political instability, there are people who spread misinformation online in various forms. So, it is best to first check the news from reliable media outlets, before sharing sensitive news online.
