Junta Launches Counteroffensive following KIA’s capture of LIB 437 Base in Bhamo Town

After the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) captured the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 437 base in MoMauk town, Bhamo District, Kachin State, and a small junta outpost near Mansi town, the junta launched a counteroffensive within three days, leading to intense clashes.

Since August 23, fighting has intensified between the junta and KIA forces due to junta offensives between Bhamo and MoMauk towns, as well as in Kawnggyaryang village, close to Mansei town, according to the Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA) spokesperson, Colonel Naw Bu.

Colonel Naw Bu said: “Clashes are ongoing in that area. The counteroffensive has led to ongoing clashes. When approaching areas near Bhamo, the junta will use all their strength to defend and fortify their positions.”

Due to the junta's counteroffensive, KIA forces have engaged in clashes around Chaukmaing and  Khunhnitmaing villages between Bhamo and MoMauk towns. As of today, 27 August, there are no further updates about the military situation, according to Colonel Naw Bu.

Currently, in addition to the area between Bhamo and MoMauk towns, intense fighting continues near Kawnggyaryang village close to Mansei town, with the military situation between both sides still tense.

KIA captured the junta's Light Infantry Battalion(LIB) 437 base in MoMauk Township, Bhamo District,  on 19 August, after nearly a month of fighting.

Colonel Naw Bu stated that while no junta bases are remaining near the LIB 437 base, some junta bases remain between the MoMauk and Bhamo towns.

KIA captured the LIB 437 base on 19 August. The following evening, they also seized the Kawnggyaryang junta outpost. By 20 August evening, area clearance operations were completed
