Junta Carries Out Deadly Airstrikes on Paletwa

In three rounds of the Junta’s airstrikes on Tarunaing village in Paletwa Township, Chin State, five individuals died, while eleven others sustained injuries.

According to a Paletwa resident who spoke to Narinjara, on May 21 the Junta launched three rounds of airstrikes on Tarunaing village using a jet fighter, despite the absence of any ongoing conflict in the vicinity.

"Yesterday around 4:00 pm, the Junta launched airstrikes using a jet fighter. We were taken by surprise as the town was peaceful, and such airstrikes were unexpected. People were simply going about their normal activities when the bombs struck, causing casualties among teenagers and the elderly”, he said.

Among the deceased were U Maung Thein Naing (32) and U Aung Htun (67), Khumi individuals hailing from Upper Balaing village in Paletwa, along with Ma Sandar (17), Daw Hla Khaing Oo (47), and U Aung Kyaw Nyun (33), Rakhine people from Upper Tarunaing village.

The injured individuals were Maung Di Phyo (12), Maung Myat Thu (12), Maung Aung Myat Oo, Daw Mya Nu, Di Moe Htun, and Daw Thein Shwe Oo, all from Upper Tarunaing village, as well as U Htun Lin from Setpyin village, Aung Hei Tun from Pyindai village, U Kyaw Hla from Upper Balaing village, and U Kyaw Soe from Nakan village in Mrauk-U Township.

He further stated that a bomb explosion resulted in the destruction of houses and a shop in Tarunaing village, inflicting severe injuries on the victims.

"The injuries were severe. The bomb shrapnel struck critical parts of their bodies, potentially posing life-threatening risks with significant bleeding”, he reported.

On May 21 alone, 7 civilians lost their lives, and 17 others sustained injuries in Chin State and Rakhine State due to artillery bombardments by Junta's Navy and Air Force.
