INGO employee arrested in Sittwe with defamation act against Tamadaw

An INGO employee was arrested in Sittwe, the capital city of Rakhine State, on Wednesday  by the police under section 505 (a) of the defamation code against the Myanmar security forces (popularly known as Tatmadaw).

Identified as Ko Hlaing Myo Aung alias Ko Hlaing, the INGO employee was arrested at around 10 am on 23 February from his dormitory in north Sanpya ward of Sittwe.

He is associated with Lutheran World Federation Myanmar (LWF) as a trainer.

A police officer of Sittwe city police station admitted that Ko Hlaing was arrested and he would be screened for Covid-19 at number 2 police station.

However, he did not answer why Ko Hlaing was arrested.

The detainee is still at Sittwe city police station. Narinjara News is waiting for the official response of LWF over the matter.
