There were ongoing battles between KNLA/KNDO and a combined force of junta army and allied BGF in KNU-held territories and the military council’s human rights violations against the people continued, the spokesperson of the Karen National Union (KNU), Pado Saw Taw Ni said.
According to the KNU statement, more than 300 clashes broke out between Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)/ Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO) and joint forces of the military council and its allied Border Guard Force (BGF), killing 360 military personnel and injuring 275 others, while seven comrades from KNLA/KNDO lost their lives and 37 others sustained injuries.
Pado Saw Taw Ni said that KNU-controlled districts such as Phapun District, Brigade (5); Dooplaya District Brigade (6); Nyaunglaybin District Brigade (3) and Thathong District Brigade (1) are the areas where clashes took place the most with the Military Council.
Furthermore, the military council deliberately conducted aerial bombings and mortar shelling on the villages in Muhtaw, killing six civilians and injuring 13, while detaining ten residents.
Fighting continues in the KNU's Brigades 5, 6, and 3, as well as airstrikes and artillery shelling on the communities, with the Brigade 3 area subjecting to increased human rights violations.
The situation in Brigade 3 is deteriorating. The military council is still committing human rights violations such as arbitrary arrests, killings, threats, abuses, and looting, the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) spokesperson Saw Nanda Su said.
Due to airstrikes and heavy weapon fire in KNU's Kawthoolei area, 37,1958 people were forced to flee their homes.
Among those who are fleeing, there are many children, the disabled, the elderly, and students, who are in need of humanitarian aid, KNU said.
