Five Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement – Signatories, Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAOs), which are also members of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), will meet and discuss with the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC), which operates under the authority of the Military Council.
During the plenary meeting of NCA-S EAOs, convened in Chiang Mai, Thailand on June 17th, the participating organizations reached a consensus to confer with the coup Military Council.
According to Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, the spokesperson for PPST, it has been confirmed that only five NCA-S EAOs will be present for the upcoming deliberations with the Military Council.
"It can be said as a consensus decision forged through extensive deliberations among the seven NCA-S EAOs. In the meeting, the focus was on the ongoing PPST processes and the topics put forth by NSPNC for negotiation. However, as PPST prepares to engage with NSPNC, the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) and the New Mon State Party (NMSP) will be absent, opting to pursue negotiations aligned with their respective agendas”, he told Shan Herald.
Discussions between five NCA-S EAOs and NSPNC will take place over a period of three days in Naypyidaw, starting from June 26th and concluding on June 28th.
"We may have differences in attendance, but RCSS and NMSP have committed to follow the procedures agreed upon by all seven NCA-S EAOs. This means that we will negotiate jointly on the agreed points and address any remaining disagreements separately. Despite not all initially signing NCA, we have come together to work towards the common goal of peace. Therefore, such a situation is no longer unusual”, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt noted.
Permanent members of PPST consist of the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army - Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), and Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO), while MNSP and RCSS hold associated membership within the team.
On March 28th, all seven NCA-S EAOs had an informal meeting with NSPNC in Naypyidaw.
