First Four-Pillar meeting held in Taunggyi to solve difficulties of journalists in Shan State

Myanmar Media Council led a four-pillar meeting in the Shan State’s capital Taunggyi to solve the difficulties the journalists are facing in the Shan State.

The Shan State Chief Minister, ministers from the Shan State government, the State Hluttaw Speaker, and the State Chief Justice attended the four-pillar meeting held at Royal Taunggyi Hotel on January 29.

U Myint Kyaw, a member of Myanmar Media Council, explained that the media is  facing difficulties in obtaining information from respective governments, hluttaws, and judges in states and regions so a solution can be found after holding face-to-face discussions.

“Compared to other states and regions, there are difficulties and challenges in the Shan State. The Shan State has a wide area and many administrations. Some places are in remote locations when we communicate with the state government such as northern Shan State, southern State, and eastern Shan State,” said U Myint Kyaw.

“Solutions on how to solve them have come out. We can’t expect to solve all the difficulties on the day of the meeting. But, where are the difficulties and how to solve them….. Sometimes, the media may have weaknesses. There may be lacking or misunderstanding in communicating with the government, hluttaw, and judges. Some issues can only be solved at the union-level,” he added.

During the meeting, journalists discussed some of the difficulties they are facing in obtaining information from the administrative, legislative, and judiciary pillars in the Shan State.

The Shan State Chief Justice U Kywe Kywe said an information officer has been appointed to assist the journalists so as to obtain information from the courts.  In addition, the journalists holding journalist identification cards only will get information such as publicly right to know.

U Soe Nyunt Lwin, spokesperson of the Shan State government and the State Minister of Planning and Economy, said the Shan State government will hold a press conference soon to explain the activities it has carried out.
