Dr Aye Maung’s son U Tin Maung Win will run for a seat in the Rakhine State Hluttaw in the upcoming by-election while his father is facing a trial on three charges.

He will be running as an independent candidate to represent Rathedaung Constituency – 2.

He submitted his application to Sittwe District Election Commission branch on July 4 afternoon.

“Yes, it’s true. Dr Aye Maung’s son U Tin Maung Win has submitted his application this afternoon to run for the state hluttaw as an independent candidate from Rathedaung Constituency – 2,” U Khin Maung Oo, an officer from the Sittwe District Election Commission, told Narinjara News on July 4.

U Tin Maung Win is 31 years old and is the eldest son of Dr Aye Maung.

He is among the applicants who submitted for permission to establish 'A Pha Rakhine Party' and he is running as an independent candidate now since they have not received permission to establish the party.

Narinjara News has been unable to contact U Tin Maung Win to inquire about his application to run in the by-election.

U Khin Maung Oo said he is the only candidate who has submitted his application to the district election commission to run in Rathedaung Constituency – 2 up to now.

“No candidates from the ANP (Arakan National Party), the NLD (National League for Democracy), and the USDP (Union Solidarity and Development Party) have submitted their applications [so far],” he added.

Rathedaung Constituency – 2 is the only vacant seat in the Rakhine State in the upcoming by-election, which will be held on November 3.
