Deputy Director of Regional Supreme Court and maid brutally murdered, home set ablaze in Mandalay

On the early morning of April 11th, at around 3:20 AM, the Deputy Director of the Mandalay Region Supreme Court was murdered along with a maid, and her home was set ablaze by perpetrators, local fire department said.

The incident took place at a residence located on 31st Street, between 65th and 66th Street in Pyi Gyi Myat Shin Ward of Aung Chan Thar San Township.

“Our team entered the house to extinguish the flames and found the bodies of two women inside. It is suspected to be a murder case and arson, and authorities are currently conducting investigations”, an official who did not want to be named told Narinjara.

The dead body of the Deputy Director of the Mandalay Region Supreme Court, Daw Lay Kyi, was discovered by members of the fire department with a vegetable slicing knife lodged in her neck. Upon further examination, it was determined that there were cut wounds on her left cheek and left forehead.

Another victim was Ma Aye Thandar, a 38-year-old maid working at the house.

According to firefighters, the fire caused damage to beds, rugs, other household items and furniture. The investigation into the arson and murder is still ongoing.
