China is eager for the swift realization of the Kyaukpyu Deep Sea Port Project and is pressuring the Military Council to expedite its implementation.
China has informed the Military Council that an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report has been prepared for the project and they are eager for its swift implementation, as reported by BETV Business.
U Aung Naing Oo, the Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, has announced that the Kyaukpyu Deep Sea Port Project, situated within Myanmar and a part of China's 'One Belt One Road' initiative, has progressed to a stage where it is poised to commence soon.
"Numerous Chinese investments are present in that region. These investments have not been implemented yet, China is likely to apply pressure and encouragement. This is why it becomes a primary focus for expedited implementation," explained U Pe Than, an experienced Rakhine politician.
On August 25, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the Military Council, urged for the expedited implementation of China's investment project, the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone and Deep Sea Port in Rakhine State.
Considering the military aspect, U Pe Than reflected that the news of submarines planning to dock near the deep sea port could also have relevance to the military sector of the Military Council.
"Additionally, I've heard about specific areas designated for their submarines to dock near the deep sea port. This could potentially have military implications as well," he remarked.
As per the Kyaukpyu Deep Sea Port Project framework agreement, the project will be executed in four distinct phases. The initial phase involves the construction of a ship anchorage station and the establishment of two jetties.
The deep sea port project is a component of the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone, and the Chinese state-owned enterprise CITIC is positioned to hold a 70 percent share and is projected to invest US$1.3 billion, as indicated by earlier information.
The Myanmar Military Council has already endorsed its participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, a collaborative effort between the governments of China and Myanmar. Additionally, the Myanmar government is in the process of forming the necessary committees, as stated by the Minister of the Ministry of Commerce.
