Myanmar got their Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup campaign off to an unconvincing start on October 14, when they were held 0-0 to a draw with minnows Timor-Leste at the National Sports Complex Stadium, Vientiane, Laos.
The White Angels are competing in a qualification tournament for five nations; also including Laos, Brunei and Cambodia, that will provide two spaces in the tournament proper when it is held from November 22 in Singapore and Vietnam.
ASEAN football reported Myanmar coach Raddy Avramovic after the match as saying he was not overly disappointed with the result as Timor were a physically strong team that had put in a credible performance in their first game of the tournament to beat Brunei 4-2.
“I thought that the players did really well in the aerial duels. What we were lacking perhaps was that we did not have good quality passes forward.”
Myanmar will now face Brunei on October 16, Cambodia on October 18 and hosts Laos on October 20 in the round-robin format.
