President Thein Sein urged members of the financial commission to approve the revised budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year at the commission's first meeting of the year on March 12, according to a report in state-run newspaper The New Light of Myanmar.
The original 2013-14 state budget was revised in accordance with the amended National Planning Bill and has yet to be presented at Parliament.
The proposed budget includes deficits of 2926.898 billion Kyats (US$3.4 billion) and of 4.94 percent of GDP. It also includes salary increases for government staff.
The Ministry of Defense's budget provision of more than US $2.6 billion for the fiscal year of 2013-14, or a fifth of Myanmar's national budget, was controversially approved at Parliament on March 1.
