The new rules are intended to give local and foreign journalists greater access to government officials and will come into effect around mid-April, the Deputy Minister for Information and Presidential Spokesman Ye Htut told the British newspaper.

The move will mean that reporters will no longer have to fly in using tourist visas or file under pseudonyms. Many foreign correspondents’ names were last year taken off a blacklist and are now allowed into the country.
