The Chin National Front (CNF) has called for the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) between the government and ethnic armed groups to be signed as soon as possible in a statement issued on 30th January.
The CNF statement said that to establish a federal union that is based on ethnic national states that can guarantee democracy, national equality and self determination the NCA needs to be signed soon.
The statement was issued after the fourth central committee meeting during the fifth CNF assembly held on the India-Burma border from 22nd to 29th January.
The statement also said that talks about the NCA between the ethnic armed groups Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT) and the government’s Union-Level Peace Work Committee (UPWC) had not progressed at their meeting in September 2014, but there seemed to have been some progress at their last meeting in December 2014.
A CNF statement said that the CNF will implement the agreements that they signed with the union government as soon as possible after they have consulted with the Chin people.
