After conducting public consultations in nine townships in Chin state, the Chin National Front (CNF) is seeking the opinions of those of the Chin ethnicity that reside out of state. The consultations are part of the ceasefire group's community outreach strategy.

DSC01409A meeting will take place on Oct. 19 in Burma’s commercial capital Yangon at Summit Park View. CNF leader Dr. Shwe Khar is slated to lead the meeting that will be attended by other Chin political parties, as well as religious leaders, students, and social groups. Discussions will involve their national goals beyond the current peace process with the government. Topics on federalism and democracy will be discussed.

According to CNF sources, they intended to hold public consultations in Mandalay, Kalay Kabaw in Sagaing region and other areas of the country where some Chins reside, but ministers from the President’s office cancelled the program after the ethnic armed group waited for permission for a month.

The CNF is also organizing the Chin National Conference in the Chin state capital of Hakha from Nov.  12-15. The conference is expected to attract at least 500 participants from a diverse range of political, cultural and social groups.
