26 April 2011: Elected Chin representative from Sagaing division, upper Burma, Mr. No Than Kap, who is also President of the Chin Progressive Party (CPP) has been made Chin Affairs Minister of Sagaing division. He visited Kalemyo and met some of his party members and local people to discuss party work and future plans.
The meeting was held in the Youth Center of Sa Tawm block of Kalemyo and was attended by organizers, advisers and township Central committee members of CPP totaling around 150 people. The meeting discussed the party’s future plan on April 23, said Mr. Van Kim, Kalemyo CPP President.
"We discussed our future plans and party issues," said the Kalemyo CPP President.
Mr. No Than Kap, CPP President embarked on the first tour of his constituency after being appointed as Chin Affairs Minister in Sagaing division, Burma by the new central government. He met party members at his constituency.
The Chin Affairs Minister also plans to visit Tamu township, Sagaing division and will hold a meeting with his party members and local people, who voted for him to win the parliamentary seat in the Sagaing Region Hluttaw.
The Minister will also visit Khampat, Bawkkan, Kanan villages of Tamu township, populated by Chin people, said Mr. Van Kim.
The CPP has 142 block and village committee totaling around 7,000 members in Kalemyo alone.
A dozen representatives of the CPP were elected from various constituencies during the 2010 Burmese election and a new central government appointed Mr. No Than Kap and Mr. Kyaw Nyein from Paletwa as Chin ministers.
Mr. No Than Kap promised in an interview with Chinlandguardian on 8 March that he will try to do his best for the needs of the Chin people. There are between 2000 to 3000 Chins in Sagaing region spread over 28 townships. There are 37 townships in the Sagaing region. An estimated 5 per cent Chins are government servants, 10 per cent in private business and 85 per cent are general workers or cultivators in the region.
He pointed out in an interview that the 2008 constitution provides any National race numbering not less than 57,000 (0.1 per cent of the whole population) a minister of their own elected by them from among their own race. Khonumthung news
