Maungdaw, Arakan State: The village administration head officer and officers from the Burma border security force (Nasaka) personnel station at Kyauk Pyin Seik (Nari Bil) have been collecting money from local villagers since June 10, said a villager from Nari Bil.
“The Nasaka ordered the village administration head officer Kawlim Ullah to collect 2,000 kyats per family.”
“There are more than 700 families in the Nari Bil village, and the Nasaka and village administration officer forced the villagers to pay 2,000 kyats per family list.”
“Many villagers are not able to pay the money to the village administration officer on time, so the Nasaka has started to search the family heads at night and forced them to pay double.”
The villagers are not able to stay in their homes at night for fear of arrest and torture, said a village administration member.
“Most heads of families are running away from their homes at night. We are afraid for our female villagers’ safety.”
“The village administration head officer is working with the Nasaka to harass the villagers. How can we, the administration members, manage the protection of female villagers?”
