There have been reinforcements at the police station in Nam Kham Township, northern Shan State.
 
While it is difficult to estimate the exact number of new policemen being posted in Nam Kham police station but 100 extension-rooms for policemen and their families have already been constructed, said a local close to the Nam Kham police station officials.
 
According to the local, some of the reinforcements are being sent to Kun Hai and Mong Wee village police stations in Nam Kham Township. So, buildings for them have been built in these villages.
 
Maj. Gen. Khin Yee, police chief, arrived in Muse and Nam Kham towns in May this year. It is learnt that he has restructured some departments in the police.
 
During the restructuring of the police department, police officers from Muse district's Special Branch (SB) were appointed in high ranking posts.
 
Analysts said that police informers and those of Military Affairs Security (MAS) will compete with each other to collect information on the Sino-Burma border area after the expansion of the police department.
 
The Shan State Northeast Military Command has implemented a systematic plan for regional security since 2008. So the Burmese Army has trained locals as militias in Nam Kham Township.
 
Military battalions, under the Northeast Military Command, have trained policemen and local militias in the use of assault rifles and provided security training in recent months, said locals.
 
The Burmese Army and ceasefire groups had fought each other in Nam Kham Township. Similarly, police and Shan State Army-North (SSA-N) clashed in 2006 in Kun Hai village. Police personnel were injured in the gun fight.
 
Even though members of ceasefire groups, the Shan State Army-North (SSA-N) and Shan State National Army (SSNA) have been living in the area, the Burmese Army cracked down on them after 2005.
