The Shan Kayah Trust-building for Peace Conference in Lashio, Shan state concluded with discussions by ethnic women leaders about the many roles that women can play in the current peace process in Myanmar.
Shan women’s leader Nang Hseng Noung was loudly applauded when she emphasized the need for civil society organizations (CSOs) to be involved in peace discussions.
Nang Htwe Mon, from the Kayan ethnic group, talked about how it’s only possible to achieve genuine peace if the Constitution is amended. Nang Htwe Mon said that currently “there is no justice”.
The Shan Kayah Trust-building for Peace Conference that concluded on March 22 was attended by 183 representatives both from ethnic armed groups, political parties, central government and outside observers.
