As a result of the ongoing Muse City beltway project developed by Thein Than Chi Construction Corporation, the company that was contracted to execute the infrastructural developments projects in the local area, Muse locals are confronting with daily difficulties.
“The company stated to restore the beltway project and finish within six months. But, it is still incomplete after over one year. Due to the construction, large trucks have to drive across of the city thereby damaging the city motorways. In addition, the detours and the roundabout ways from the constructions are causing more heavy traffics in the city.” reported a Muse local.
The government did not call for any tenders for the beltway project but contracted Thein Than Chi Company to undertake it. The construction has taken place since 2011and the proposal of the beltway to be in measurements of 2 miles 3 furlongs in length, 24 feet in width, 1 foot up in concrete mass, 1 inch up in coded tar mass, with 2 feet width and 3 feet depth drainages on both sides was designed to be complete within 6 months.
“Not only is the finished area of the road concrete mass not short of 1 foot but also the road is not 24 feet in width. The drainages were set out only 200 feet total in length but also neither 2 feet in depth or 3 feet in width.” continued the local.
For the project, the company was authorized to use 3.8 acre of the 7 acre land designate to build the public hospital located close to the area of the beltway construction for 10 years in the purpose of building the warehouses. However, U Kyaw Win from Thein Than Chi Company is selling the lands for 800 million Kyats ($1 million) per acre, the locals claimed.
Likewise, the project of 12 acre dimensions highway bus terminal construction will be permitted to Thein Than Chi Company. The construction of the city beltway and the bus terminal were commended and signed by Director General U Min Zaw from the of President’s Office. Ahead of the calls for the tenders of the 12 acre lands and the department stores in the area of the construction in March 2012, U Kyaw Win had claimed of guaranteeing 5 times money back if his company would not be authorized to undertake the projects.
“We people want the authority to reexamine the beltway construction done by Thein Than Chi Company that has carte blanche with our city and to reconsider the approval of the construction of highway bus terminal project to that company.” said an educated young local.
U Kyaw Win of Thein Than Chi Company is said to be a close friend to the current President of Myanmar, and his arrogant attitude and the frequently intimidating of the local government officials about not concerning of being reported to any government departments causing many Muse locals resent him.
