A former member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) - a hardcore ally of coup Military Council and current leader of the local Pyu-Saw-Htee militia, was shot dead on January 25th in Nan Ma village of Mohnyin Township, Kachin State.
“He was sitting near the railroad crossing and drinking tea when two young men came and shot him from close range. The shooters escaped. The deceased was a former USDP member and current Pyu-Saw-Htee leader. He was even allowed to carry a pistol”, the local said.
U Tin Nyunt (50) was shot and killed by two unknown young assailants at the Ko San Win tea shop next to the railway in Nan Ma at around 7:00 am, a local told KNG.
Slain U Tin Nyunt contested the 2020 election as a candidate of Kachin State's Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities) from Constituency No. 7, representing the Shan-ni Solidarity Party, but did not win.
After the Pyu-Saw-Htee leader was killed, the Military Council and the police were conducting strict checks and investigations in Nan Ma.
In Kachin State, Pyu-Saw-Htee leaders and members, as well as those affiliated with the Military Council, are still frequently assassinated.
