An agreement was reached between National Unity Government (NUG) and Bamar People's Liberation Army (BPLA) to work together on military operations, NUG announced on October 27th.
The BPLA was formed to represent the interests of the Bamar people in the struggle against the dictatorship in April 2021,and its founding leaders included the prominent poet Maung Saungkha. The BPLA has been fighting in southeastern Myanmar’s Hpapun district alongside the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
The NUG announced that the agreement was reached after a meeting between NUG's Ministry of Defence officials and BPLA officers led by BPLA commander Maung Saungkha on October 26.
NUG’s statement said that NUG, PDF (People’s Defense Forces) and BPLA agreed to conduct military operations together in the respective areas and to cooperate with each other through mutual respect and recognition.
BPLA’s spokesperson also clarified the group is fighting not just for the liberation of the Bamar people, but for all oppressed ethnic groups in Myanmar. Apart from close relations and some joint operations with the KNLA, they have also gained official recognition from the Northern Alliance.

How things are working during the current revolution, the role of NUG in revolutionary operations, and opinions about the future federal union were all discussed in a friendly and open manner.
The meeting was attended by NUG Minister of Defense U Yee Mon, Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of NUG U Naing Htoo Aung, BPLA commanding officer Maung Saungkha and BPLA camp commander Roe Ant Min, according to NUG’s statement.
