Four Muslim youths injured in Mrauk-U mine blasts; Two killed, 5 injured in Rakhine mine blasts within eight days

A landmine exploded at Paung Tot (new) Village under Mrauk-U township in Rakhine State on Friday afternoon, where four Muslim youths were injured.

Two of the four injured were hospitalized  with serious wounds, said Amanthar Gyi, a social worker.

They were injured when a landmine exploded as they were grazing their cattle in a field at 12:30 pm on 8 July.

The injured were identified as Mucharak (14 years old),  Chaung Chu Alaung (16),  Ma Mawt Adek (13) and Ohn Maw Sadet (13).

Mucharak received serious injuries to her right leg. He has been shifted to  Myaungbwe cottage hospital with another severely injured youth, added the social worker, who visited the hospital.

"The other two had minor injuries. mMucharak lost one leg and the other one sustained injuries in his chest,” informed the social worker while talking to Narinjara News.

A series of landmine explosions have taken place in the State in recent days, which have killed two locals and injured five others.

On 4 July,  Hla Maung (35) of Myalikan village under Kyauktaw township died with serious injuries when he was hit by a landmine blast in the grazing land near the village.

On 3 July, Maung Hla Tun (28) went to cut bamboos near the military training school (division 9) in Minbya township and faced a landmine explosion. He is receiving treatment after breaking his left leg.

On 1 July, U Than Sein Maung (45), a  resident of Wet Hmaing village under Kyauktaw township died at Sittwe general hospital after he sustained injuries in a landmine blast while looking after the  cattle in western part of the village.

During June and May, several landmines reportedly exploded in Kyauktaw, Ann,  Mrauk-U and Rathedaung townships killing a number of people and injuring several others.
