At least nine Omicron infected persons were detected for the first time in Rakhine State.
The State council confirmed that their nose & throat samples were sent to Yangon for testing and it was found positive on 18 February for the new variant of Covid-19.
On 15 February, more than 10 flight passengers and 50 teachers from Sittwe University were screened for novel coronavirus infection and nine were tested positive for the new variant.
Among those infected five were flight passengers and four individuals were from Sittwe University.
Lately, the number of corona-infected persons in Rakhine State has increased.
The authority has ordered for screening of all passengers including the air travelers for Covid-19.
As of yesterday, there were 5,436 corona-positive cases with 501 casualties in the State, reported the Covid-19 control and emergency response committee.
