New network formed to oppose Myitsone dam

A new network to oppose the Myitsone dam project will be formed on April 1. Currently this project is being opposed not only by local people at the project site but also people across the country.

Political activist and one of the members the network, Myat Kyaw, said, “Our objective is very clear. It is only one, termination of the project once and for all. We will adopt our programme for achieving this objective, say how to achieve this objective, boycott or demonstration. We will form committees in this network and these committees will take decisions. This is the first part of our network. Another part of this network is all-inclusiveness in this work. We would like to see all walks of life with people from every nook and corner of the country but we don’t know yet how many people will come and join this network.”

CSOs, activists and people are worried to project may be restarted it was started by the Thein Sein government and he later suspended it.
