The Myanmar junta launched airstrikes on Singaing village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, at around 10 pm on 16 March, killing four civilians, including an infant, and injuring seven others, according to Shwebo District Battalion 15.
The attack occurred despite the absence of any active clashes in the area. Those killed included an 85-year-old woman, an 82-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman, and a six-month-old baby, said Lieutenant Kauk Yoe, commander of Shwebo District Battalion 15.
“Two jet fighters dropped bombs twice, with a three-minute interval between strikes. Two bombs landed near residential houses in the village. The attack deliberately targeted civilians, even though there was no fighting,” said Lieutenant Kauk Yoe.
Local residents confirmed the casualties and reported that many villagers were fleeing the area out of fear of further airstrikes.
In a separate attack, the junta also carried out airstrikes on Sein Yadanar Priyatti monastic school in Nawnghkio Township, northern Shan State, killing 14 civilians including nine monks and novices, according to a statement from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
Additionally, on the evening of 14 March, the military bombed a market in Lattpanhla village, Singu Township, Mandalay Region, killing 27 civilians, including six children. The regime has also conducted airstrikes on Ban Maw, Hpa Lan, and Moe Bye townships, where clashes are ongoing.
The Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG) has condemned the attacks, calling for urgent and effective measures against the junta. The ministry stated that the regime is violating international human rights and humanitarian laws, as well as international treaties designed to protect civilians, particularly children.
