There are more internally displaced persons (IDPs) on ground in the list of the IDP camps in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State than the IDPs' list by the government, according to a State Hluttaw MP from Waingmaw Constituency – 2.
U Naw Li, the Kachin State MP from Waingmaw Constituency – 2, raised a question in the Kachin State Hluttaw yesterday to ask whether the government has any plan to resolve the gap between the actual IDP list and the government’s IDP list.
U Naw Li told K.N.G that the IDPs are facing hardship in the IDP camps due to this gap.
"Problems arise when the government or aids organizations come to provide their aids due to the gap in the actual list from the IDP camps and the government’s list. The organizations came to give the aids based on the government’s population list. Issues arise in settling them in the buildings. Also, the people who are not on the government’s list may face trouble when resettlement is carried out in the future after peace returns to the country,” he said.
He added that such kind of gap between the IDP lists should not happen and respective government organizations should re-compile a correct list of the IDPs in accordance with the on-ground situation.
Waingmaw Township has 14 IDP camps and there are only 6,000 IDPs in the government’s list while there are over 30,000 IDPs in the actual list.
