All members of the Northern Alliance will attend the third session of the Union Peace Conference – 21st Century Panglong next week.
The third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference will be held from July 11 to 16.
“All members of the Northern Alliance have been invited. They said they will attend it. We have also invited the KNPP (Karenni National Progressive Party). The KNPP also said they will attend it,” said U Zaw Htay, director-general of the President’s Office.
U Zaw Htay said letter of notification has been sent to the all seven members of the Northern Alliance via the Chinese embassy.
The Northern Alliance comprises seven members that have yet to sign the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA): the United Wa State Army (UWSA), the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA – Mongla group), the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and the Arakan Army (AA).
The upcoming conference will focus on protecting the rights of ethnic minorities, democratic rights, basic human rights, and gender equality.
