A man died and three people have been injured after an unidentified armed group shot at four civilians in two consecutive days in Hsipaw Township in the northern Shan State.
A driver died and two conductors have been injured after an unidentified armed group shot at a truck near Yay Pu (Kyan Khin) Village in Hsipaw Township on May 8, according to the Border-less Parahita Association.
Ko Myo from the Border-less Parahita Association told the Shan Herald that Sai Kyaw Oo from Kone Thar Village in Hsipaw Township received injuries on his leg after he was shot by an unidentified armed group on May 9 morning.
“Civilians were hit in two consecutive days. We don’t know which group [is responsible]. We received a call to help them so we took the injured people to Hsipaw Hospital. A driver died on the spot yesterday (May 8). The rest of them received injuries on their legs. They are not in serious condition,” said Ko Myo.
Sai Aik, a truck driver, said public lives are being threatened due to the shooting against civilians by the armed group and all fighting should end immediately.
“[The shooting] frequently takes place on this road so I’m scared after thinking when I will be next. I can’t stop working as a driver. The fighting should end,” he said.
The Tatmadaw, the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army – North (SSPP/SSA-N), and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) are active in Hsipaw Township.
A skirmish broke out last January in Hsipaw Township after an armed group shot at a truck carrying cattle and the Tatmadaw fired back at the armed group in response.
