A police officer from Taunggyi Myoma Police Station has been arrested for attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl in the Shan State’s capital Taunggyi.

The 30-year-old police corporal attempted to rape the granddaughter of an inmate after he was assigned to guard the inmate, who was being hospitalized at Sao San Tun Hospital in Taunggyi, according to the Shan State Police Force.

Police Corporal Kyaw Naing Oo took the 11-year-old girl at 8:30 am on April 2 with his motorcycle after offering to buy her snacks. He took her to the northern road of the Medical University at the foothill of Thit Taw Yeik Shwe Hpone Pwint Pagoda.

He tried to rape there but he was unable to rape her. Then, he made his second attempt in the hospital toilet at 11 am on the next day but he was caught by the girl’s mother.

A police officer on duty from the police station said the police corporal has been taken to the prison.

He is facing four charges under the Penal Code.

“He has been charged with Section 363 for kidnapping an underage child, Section 376 for rape, Section 511 for rape attempt, and Section 377 for unnatural offense.
