Thuta Linn — The National League for Democracy’s (NLD) chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has instructed newly elected members of Parliament to use the word ‘elected representatives’ instead of the word ‘winning representative’, according to Kachin State’s MPs.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with the newly elected NLD MPs from Upper Burma in Pyinmana on December 5th and gave this instruction.
According to a recently elected MP for Myitkyina Township Constituency No 2, U Nay Win, the NLD leader reminded the MPs that they had been elected by the public.
“She told the MPs not to forget to serve the public. She also told them not to become flattered whenever someone flatters them and not to become frightened whenever someone frightens them,” U Nay Win said.
The incoming Upper House MP representing Kachin state Constituency No 2 Daw Shila Nan Taung, who attended the meeting said the MPs only came to listen to the party chairperson’s speech.
“We weren’t scolded like the MPs from Lower Burma,” she said with a laugh.
U Aung Thein who was elected as an MP for Bhamo Township’s Lower House seat said the NLD leader instructed the MPs to avoid any issues where the names of top-ranking party members are misused.
“She said effective action will be taken if the leaders’ names are misused for personal profit,” he added.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has also warned that the NLD MPs and against taking bribes. She indicated that those who accept bribes will be sent to prison .
