Moe Kyaw — The Chin National Front (CNF) pledged its support this Wednesday to any political parties working for peace between the current government and the Chin armed group.
“People often ask us what party they should vote for in the 2015 Election. Rather than telling them to vote for one party, or another, we want those that support the peace process and CNF’s policies to win. This is a political cooperation between the CNF and the Chin people on a national level. The public will have to decide for themselves who they want to vote for,” said Col. Solomon, secretary for CNF Party Affairs Department.
The CNF’s announcement stated that it won’t give preference, nor will they oppose any political party; its policy is for mutual cooperation with all political parties. It urged all those responsible, including the government, to work together for a free and fair general election.
Although the CNF doesn’t have interest in pursuing politics on a parliamentary level, it supports a democratic election that will contribute to the Chin people. It has made it clear it’s a neutral force, and encouraged ethnic Chin to vote for candidates that will fulfill their political desires as long as they support its policies and the ongoing peace efforts in Myanmar.
The CNF also urged all Chin national political parties to unite as one single party in cooperation for the 2015 Election and Chin populations across the country.
Two-hundred and twenty-three candidates from twelve parties, including independent candidates, are contesting the thirty-nine seats available in Chin State.
According to last year’s census, 478,690 live in the Chin State; and it’s the only state without a national affairs minister position in the upcoming election.
