The National League for Democracy (NLD) is likely to win most seats of the seats in southern Arakan State constituencies and around three seats in northern Arakan State in the upcoming election, predicts the  NLD Sittwe District’s Chairman U Thinkhar Kyaw.

“The NLD was attacked by the Arakan people after 2012 and people started to have better views towards the party in 2014. We have been cooperating with other parties and social organizations for matters relating to Arakan State,” said U Thinkhar Kyaw.

The NLD has taken steps to reach out to the general public in northern Arakan State where a nationalist movement has been active.

The NLD’s chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will arrive in Thandwe on October 16th as part of her trip to Thandwe, Toungup, and Gwa.  All NLD candidates running in Arakan State have been invited to Thandwe by October 15th.

U Thinkhar Kyaw told Narinjara News that Daw Suu will not be able to campaign in northern Arakan State because of her travel itinerary.

Similarly, the NLD’s central campaign chairman and the party’s patron U Tin Oo will also arrive in Arakan State on the last week of October for his visit to Sittwe, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U and Minbya.

The NLD started its campaign in Sittwe on September 19th and in Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, and Myebon townships since September 10th.

The NLD won three seats in the Arakan State during the 1990 Election.
