President U Thein Sein used his monthly radio address on October 1 to call for political forces to abandon partisanship at what he called “a critical time,’ in the political transition of Myanmar.

He called on all political forces to approach the ceasefire process and the general election expected to be held in 2015 with patience and a generous mind.

“If we sign the ceasefire agreement then we can progress to the political negotiations and deliver stability, if we have stability then we can deliver the general election successfully and it will be sure to be a smooth transition,” said the President.

In response, U Nyan Win, a National League for Democracy central executive committee member, told Mizzima that while he agreed with the president’s itinerary he did not agree with his views on partisanship.

‘If we did not have partisan views, we would not form a party,” said U Nyan Win, “In a peace process they invite us all, but we do not wish to be included merely to applaud and congratulate. We want to be involved in the detail to contribute to the peace process and the nation,” he said.
