Junta Escalates Military Operations to Regain Control in Tanintharyi Region

The coup junta, which lost military bases in the Tanintharyi Region one by one during the 'Spring Revolution' period, is now intensifying efforts with robust reinforcements and conducting military operations to reassert territorial control.

The junta, having lost more than three military camps in the Tanintharyi Region in June, has been conducting military operations in Myeik and Tanintharyi districts, as well as in Yebyu Township, where the Dawei deep seaport project is located, and along No. 8 Union Road in recent days.

The resistance forces intercepted the military activities of the junta troops and carried out ambushes, leading to intense skirmishes.

A spokesman for the People's Defense Force - Dawei Township (PDF-Dawei) told Than Lwin Times that this month the junta has been rapidly increasing the deployment of weapons and manpower in Dawei.

“This month, the junta troops began conducting more frequent operations and area clearance activities in the region, centered around Yebyu. They especially focused on Launglon Township, reinforcing bases there with additional infantry troops and delivering weapons by waterway,” he said.

After the resistance forces captured the Pedet military camp, which is crucial for the junta and located on the Myeik-Dawei Road, the junta has intensified its operations in the region, deploying the Army, Air Force, and Navy. However, the junta troops have not yet been able to redeploy to that camp.

Under the pretext of conducting area clearance operations, the junta troops invaded local villages, arrested residents, used them as human shields, killed them, and burned their homes.

The information officer of PDF-Myeik's Joint Military Column No. 2 stated that the junta is using conscripts who have recently completed military training to conduct operations aimed at regaining territorial control in the Tanintharyi Region. He added that the junta is also intensifying its arbitrary shelling and air raids on villages.

FE5 Tanintharyi, a monitoring group, reported that 13 civilians, including an 8-month-old baby, were killed in the Tanintharyi Region in June due to brutal acts and airstrikes by the junta and its subordinate armed factions.

Although some battles aimed at capturing junta bases took place in several townships in the Tanintharyi Region in June, the number of engaged clashes has decreased. However, due to the intensification of the junta's operations under the pretext of area clearance, the number of war-displaced persons has risen to over 50000.

Currently, the junta is ramping up military operations in Launglon, Kyunsu, and Kawthaung townships, with military tensions looming in Palaw and Thayetchaung townships.

According to statistics collected by Than Lwin Times, the resistance forces have managed to capture at least a dozen junta bases, camps, and outposts in the Tanintharyi Region.
